Young Organists visit the Mid-west !!

28th January, 2022

Some of our Young Organists (from our St Mary’s Cathedral Young Organists’ Programme) enjoyed a weekend in Geraldton a couple of weeks ago focussing on the amazing St Francis Xavier Cathedral built by Monsignor

John Hawes with its 2 pipe organs and 27 bell carillon – they played at the Sunday Masses, gave a short recital – and sampled some of the amazing surrounds of Geraldton – including the nearby wind farm !!!

Young Organist, Dominique Douglas-Smith writes: It was a great privilege to travel to Geraldton to play organ at the Cathedral of St Francis Xavier. The organ is a beautiful neo-classical instrument and the Cathedral is a striking building with 27 magnificent bells – transporting one to Mediaeval Europe! We were received by the people of Geraldton with such kindness. I hope that our music bore fruit for the glorification of God and the edification of these generous souls.

It was such a fun weekend – we are already looking forward to our next visit !!!
