NEWS ITEM: Cathedral’s Principal Cantor wins national award

October 24th, 2018

The Australian Catholic University (ACU) has announced that the Cathedral’s Principal Cantor Joshua Adams has just been awarded the 2018 Isabel Menton Composition Prize.

This award (run by the ACU) was established in honour of Sr Isabel Menton, a Josephite sister who was widely known as an outstanding choral musician and teacher. The award aims to support and inspire the composition of new Australian choral music.

Joshua’s composition was titled ‘In Id Ipsum Invicem’ – the text taken from Romans 12: 16.

Joshua says ‘It’s nice to finally receive an award for my composition work. As a voice student and singer, I felt that I needed to prove myself as a composer as well, but now I have! ‘In Id Ipsum Invicem’ ties together a number of ideas and sounds in a single piece, and it’s rewarding to see a positive response to the way that I’ve constructed this.’
