NEWS ITEM – Cathedral Concert Series 2019 opener supports Notre Dame, Paris

The Cathedrals Concert Series 2019 opened with a programme of both reflective and exhilarating music to celebrate the Easter season and Divine Mercy Sunday.

Following news of the devastating fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, it was decided to make this concert a fund-raiser to support the restoration efforts of the world famous sacred edifice.

The programme was changed to include French vocal works of Saint-Saens and Gounod – and exciting organ works from the French symphonic school include Widor and Vierne who was organist at Notre Dame form 1900-1937. The line-up featured organists Pia Schelfhout and John Beaverstock, members of our vocal ensemble, cantors Emma Oorschot and Catherine Campbell and, of course, the Cathedral Choir.
