Cathedral prepares for Remembrance concert

October 31st, 2018

The Cathedral is preparing to host a very special evening of remembrance to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

The concert titled ‘Remembrance by candlelight’ takes place on Sunday 4th November at 7:15pm.

Yoram Levy

One of the highlights is the visit of the Concert Series’ first interstate artist Yoram Levy, one of Australia’s foremost trumpet players. Originally from Israel, Yoram has performed extensively in his native Israel with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra under conductors Leonard Bernstein and Zubin Mehta. Upon moving to Australia, Yoram has played with the country’s main orchestras and is currently Principal Trumpet of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

Yoram says: ‘It is a pleasure to come back to Perth to perform with Jacinta and Katja at St. Mary’s Cathedral. It will also be my first time in Geraldton and I am looking forward to performing there too. The memorial day theme of these concerts is close to my heart as I will always remember playing at the ANZAC memorial service on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem in 1988. I have always seen it as a precursor to my moving to Australia in 1990’.

The artist line-up also includes well-known Perth soprano Katja Webb, the St George’s College Chamber Orchestra, and, of course, the Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral’s grand pipe organ.

Also featured is a special narration given by well-loved historian Richard Offen who joins us with a special narration focussing on young Perth local Alaric Pinder Boor (1892-1917) who died as part of the battle at Beersheba, Palestine in 1917.

Tickets available at ticketswa.com (phone 6488 2440 between 12 noon – 4pm weekdays).
