Faith in Action

Our volunteers are the cornerstone of our parish community, and we are deeply grateful for their dedication and service. Their generosity of time and effort helps create a welcoming, vibrant, and faith-filled environment for all who walk through the Cathedral’s doors.

No matter what stage of life you’re in, there’s a place for you to actively be part of the Cathedral. Volunteering is more than just giving your time—it’s a way to live out your faith, serve others, and contribute to the life of the Church.

Whether you feel called to assist as an acolyte, altar server, reader, cleaner, florist, or in crowd management, every role plays a vital part in making the Cathedral a place of worship, community, and spiritual growth.

Join us in making a difference through service, fellowship, and faith.

Frequently Asked
Questions

I want to volunteer but I’m unsure what I can offer.

Having the heart and intention to serve is a great place to start! Fill in the enquiry form as best you can, and our team will guide you in finding a role that matches your skills, interests, and availability.

How long do I have to volunteer for?

We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different. While there is no set time commitment, we encourage a routine schedule that fits your life so we can maintain consistency in our parish community.

Why do I need a police clearance and extra forms?

We understand this may be an inconvenience, but safeguarding is a priority in our parish. These forms help ensure a safe environment for all members of our community, especially the vulnerable.

I am an altar server at another parish. Can I just come and serve?

We’re happy to welcome you! Please contact the Cathedral Office, and our team will guide you through the necessary process to serve at St Mary’s.

Can I choose multiple roles to volunteer in?

Absolutely! Many of our volunteers take part in more than one ministry. Let us know your interests, and we’ll work with you to find the best fit.

Is there training provided for volunteers?

Yes! Depending on the role, we provide training to help you feel confident and prepared in your service.

Can I volunteer with my family or friends?

Yes! Volunteering is a wonderful way to serve together. Let us know in your enquiry form, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you in the same or similar roles.

What if I need to take a break from volunteering?

Life happens, and we completely understand! If you need to step back, just inform your team leader or the Cathedral Office so we can adjust accordingly.
